It’s not your fault. . . REALLY!

Every diet works, and every diet fails! You know that of course. You’ve followed many diets to the T. You’ve severely cut calories, worked out every day, bought the promises of diet products and after losing weight, just gained it all back. Maybe even more!

You’re fault? You cheated? Of course not. You just followed bad advice.

I studied Nutrition  back in the 80’s at the University of Michigan.  So much has changed since then!  Our textbooks included books like “Diet for a Small Planet” which was a great read, but as with other recommendations from the experts and government groups like the USDA, the recommendations were flawed and not evidence based.  Yes, we were handing out bad advice and today we’re experiencing the effects of this guidance with chronic diseases like diabetes, heart diseases and obesity.

What you eat really does matter and all calories are not created equally.

We’ve been the victims of the “eat less, move more” crusade and food pyramid guidelines that have expanded out waistlines and provoked a slowed metabolism and yo-yo dieting.  Perhaps we can rename this “eat less, move more” movement to: “eat very little, get very fat!”

As a Certified Health Coach I ask myself, “How can anyone expect to reset his/her metabolism and transition to a healthy diet if he/she feels deprived?  How can one eat a healthy diet and feel satisfied without counting calories, feeling hungry all the time and having food constantly on his/her mind?”
